History

The club was formed in 1922 and was federated then.  It was originally known as the Columbia Household Science Club.  In May, 1945, the name was changed to Columbia Woman’s Club, as it remains today.  The club was always active in community affairs, from the very beginning.  The club was instrumental in forming the first Girl Scout troop, and many of the members became Scout leaders.  The club was also responsible for the formation of the Columbia Public Library, after years of much hard work.  One of the club members, Jean Henderson, became the first salaried librarian.  The club has presented many scholarships throughout the years, and are very proud of the accomplishments of many of the recipients.  The club is very involved throughout the community - and has the respect of the community as well.
